HELP, how can i get my LO to sleep past 4AM?

we started an early bedtime 6pm about 3 weeks ago and for a while he was sleeping until his usual 5:30am wakeup even though he was going to bed 2 hrs earlier. Well the past 3-4 days he refuses to nap almost completely during the day, and is ready to get up in the morning at 4am. I let him CIO from 4-5am this morning until I finally went and got him. I'm afraid this kid has too much will for CIO to work anymore. any ideas or advice is appreciated.

  • I put Braydon back in bed with me and we sleep until 8. He would be up at 6 otherwise!

  • i wouldnt give up on he ferber method.  that was ultimately the only thing that worked for me.  it was a painful process!  good luck :)

  • I don't know if I really can offer any advice because last night was the first night DS did not wake up at 4am.  He slept from 8-6. But he was usually going to bed at about 7 and waking up in the middle of the night.  I have been gradually making his bedtime later and now it is up to 8.  Last night was the first night.
  • Until very recently my DD was getting up very early too, I mistakenly thought she was ready to start the day and would get up with her.  I realized she was actually just hungry and if I just fed her and pretended like it was the middle of the night and fed her quickly, she'd go right back to sleep.  I kept the lights out, no talking, no diaper change.

  • why such an early bedtime? i would push it back again slowly. my sister had this problem for 4 months and pushed the bedtime back and he slept later. i wouldnt do it at once but 15-30 mins at a time.
  • I would try Ferber and then if that doesn't work I would try bumping his bedtime to 7pm.
  • I would push his bedtime back to 7 or 8pm.
