3rd Trimester

They cancelled my baby furniture order! ~VENT sort of long-ish~

Had ordered my crib and dresser set back in June because they could take at least 12 wekks to be delivered, which was fine at the time because that would make it around my EDD (the 31st)...  I get a call Tuesday from the lady at the store I ordered it from - apparently the company who makes the set went under new management and made the monumental decision that if you ordered your furniture by "x" date you were ok, but if it was after "x" date, you were basically screwed.  Guess which category I'm in?  That's right... my crib and dresser were cancelled.  Of course, it had already been @ 8 weeks since I placed the order, so obviously nothing was being done to actually MAKE them (and I'm sorry, but you don't just go under new management on a whim).  AND they decided it was a brilliant idea to not tell the store until Tuesday (via a crappy fax) - god forbid they tell the customers themselves.  Cowards.  I thought the poor lady from the store was going to cry when she told me.  Going back tonight to pick out new stuff (which I'm sure will be just as nice - I really love this store) but I'm still PO'd at the company and how they handled this.

Ah well...  I've got a P n P and a Moses basket for the little one when she comes anyway - plus at least my glider rocking chair didn't get cancelled!

If you read this - please know that I'm not normally like this - more "go with the flow" when people I know have this happen to them.  Darn water retention and back aches!  :-)

  • Wow, you are way more understanding than I am.  I bought floor samples and went apesh!t on the store when it took forever to deliver.  I purchased the furniture when I was 32 weeks.  They told me that it would be delivered the next week.  When they never called about a delivery date, I called and they said it would take SIX weeks to deliver.  I went nuts because the sales lady said it would be delivered the following week.  I finally got them to deliver it that next week when I called and asked what the delivery policy was if I ordered furniture.  They said ordered furniture takes approx 10 to 12 weeks to come in and then it is guaranteed for delivery the week after it arrives.  I said great, this is disbride, can you explain why my furniture that is sitting in your store can not be delivered for 6 weeks?  They delivered it two days later.

  • You are taking this well, I think--I would be losing my sh!t all over the place.  File a Better Business Bureau complaint against the furniture company--maybe your experience will help disuade someone else from purchasing from them.  I'm also a big fan of letter writing--I would try to get this company to pay for the bassinet/bassinet bedding--it is an expense you would not have necessarily had if the crib order wasn't canceled (they don't need to know you have a pack n play).

  • Now THIS would push me over the edge.  You are being super understanding.  Good luck!
  • What company is it?

That is super crummy. I'm sorry you're having to deal with it.  Of course, now you've made me paranoid about mine :)

***************************** Our beautiful daughter was born in October 2009. Turns out she was quite the miracle. After two years of TTC, diagnosed with DOR. A couple of failed treatment cycles later, we decided to let go of our hope for more biological children and explore adoption.
  • I don't blame you.  I am a go with a flow person too, but having that happen can be really unnerving.  You only have 4 more weeks!  Who has time to shop for a crib once the baby comes?  Don't worry, though, it'll work out.  Some cribs don't take that long to arrive.  I think we got ours in a week or two.
  • It was Legacy - the Bergen County Collection.  Don't know if it was Legacy itself that had the issue or a "sub-company" that manufactures/sells their furniture (I don't know 100% how these things work).  I'll see what's what tonight when I go back to the store I guess.

Believe me, there will be a letter sent (and I am contemplating the BBB)... but I also figure I'll be damned if my BP goes up just because of some lousy customer service.

Thanks to all for the support though!   May all of our labor(s) be brief!  That was on one of the cakes at my shower...

  • UPDATE:  went Friday - the same stuff I had ordered was on the floor as a display... so I got that at a discount, plus added 2 pieces at a REALLY good (and much lower) price because the poor lady felt so bad and she just wanted it off the floor (apparently she was less than pleased with the situation as well).  So now I have even more furniture (either for now or to store for when she's here and a little bigger)...  and it will be delivered in about a week (instead of having to order new stuff and waiting another 8-12 weeks).  Hooray!

Now if you'll excuse me - there's a bowl of Frosted Mini-Wheats calling my name!  :-)
