dh and I bought our niece a cross necklace. A hanging cross for above a crib/bed is also common; as with a Bible.

A family friend gave us a child's bible. Some family members gave us money for her college fund.

I wanted to get my niece  something that she could play with now. My mom gave her religious themed hard books and coloring books. And we put everything in a cute bag so that she'd have a little activity/play pack for mass.

If it is for a Catholic ceremony, a rosary would be nice.

My daughter just got a charm bracelet from James Avery and her first charm (a baptism charm).  That was my favorite.
