Can your doc put an IUD in at your 6 week appt?

I already called my insurance company and asked if Paraguard was covered (it is), and I already told my doc that I wanted to go with that option (since I am bfing and cannot take hormonal bcp), so do you think I can call and have her order it and have her put it in at the 6 week, or do you think I should make another appt for that? I'm new at this.

it sounded to me at my appt this morning that I could have done that. instead I have to go back next week to get it inserted

I think you have to have a pap first and that it has to come back normal and then you're okay.

Maybe, my doctor did a pap at my 6 week appt and wanted to make sure it was normal before the IUD. I got my mirena put in a week later at 7 weeks.

My doctor put it in at my 6 week PP checkup.

Mine went in at the 6 week checkup, I went back four weeks later to make sure it was still in place and got my PAP done then.

My OB would have if I didn't have a period before then.  He prefers to either do it before your first PP period or during a period.  I got my first period a little after 4 weeks PP.  I didn't get it put in on my second period because my husband was home for R&R and I didn't want to chance several days of spotting beyond my normal period since he was only here for 2 weeks.  Once my next period comes I will call on the frist day and he said he will get me in for sure that day or the day after since he already has them in the office.
