Their lawyer Dominic Barbara is a total piece of crap. Best lines from the press conference (from my local paper):

Nonetheless, Barbara did say after today?s press conference that it was possible Diane Schuler drank alcohol to raise her blood sugar level.?

?You might want to self-medicate with something to bring the level up,? Barbara said.

Then he adds to his stupidity:

"She's on one side of the road. She's crossing over dividers. She goes back over. This is not the actions of a person who is drunk."

Wow.  Just wow.

So, what, their theory is that (a) she had a stroke, which then caused her to uncharacteristically go buy and drink large quantities of alcohol as well as swing by somewhere to pick up some pot; or (b) she was having a low blood sugar episode, so instead of trying to find food/juice/etc., so opted for alcohol and pot (let me guess to increase her appetite???).  Ridiculous.

I'm trying to understand the chain of events here:  The whole family is at a campsite; mom leaves with kids and nieces, dad stays behind.  He didn't see her drink, other than coffee.  So on the way home to LI she stops, with kids, to drink vodka and smoke pot?  Bizarre considering hubby says she wasn't a drinker.  Someone's lying.

He's gearing up his legal defense. As of right now, there has been some talk that he may be the target of some lawsuits.  He needs to establish that he had no knowledge of a drinking or drug problem otherwise, he could be found guilty of contributory negligence (or some other cause of action).

It's a horrible situation all around and my heart breaks for all involved. I just keep coming back to her.. really, how could she do it? So selfish, careless, reckless.. so horrific.

My thoughts exactly. Could you even effing imagine being her SIL (the mom of the three nieces was her SIL, right?) ?I don't know how you'd EVER get over the anger if indeed, this crazy biitch had everyone fooled. ?All three of your kids, gone.

 Really?? It kind of seems like EXACTLY what someone who is drunk and HIGH would do while driving.  I can't believe that's his defense!

My heart breaks for the children in the car. How long did this go on before the crash? How scared must they have been. It is just so sad, and I can not imagine what could drive a supposedly normal woman to do such a thing. Its one thing if you want to go on a bended and destroy your own life....but to take 7 others with you?? 4 of them children? How selfish and sad at the same time

Just so everyone puts this into perspective, Dominic Barbra also represented Amy Fisher and Jessica Hahn.  Those were his two big cases that made him famous.  He is also tries to connect himself to the Howard Stern show.

This whole situation is horrificly tradgic.

See, but if you are suicidal, you aren't thinking about anything but offing yourself.  I don't know. I am not trying to make an excuse for this AT ALL, because suicide isn't one either. But, really...something is just weird about this entire thing. Either these people are fantastic liars, or there was something else going on that we don't know yet.

Day after day after day, people kill themselves and take their children along with them, because they (mistakenly) think their children just cannot live without them. Nieces, I don't get.

Remember, my experience with suicide is someone who had very carefully calculated it down to who would find him...so that is my frame of reference. The "out of control" suicidal part is not something I am real familiar with. I would say it is about half and half, no?

The husband already admitted he knew she smoked pot - the lawyer said he would not field any questions about marijuana during the press conference because "marijuana is not a crime"!

They know she had problems. You don't just one day wake up and say "I've never had a drink before and I've never smoked pot, I'm going to start today!" And if she never drank, there is no way she could have had all that alcohol in her system without passing out. She was a pro. Apparently there is an old "drinking buddy" painting another picture of this woman. I hope she is burning in hell.

My thoughts exactly!  Nothing adds up.  It sounds like she did it intentionally. So horrible and sad.

The whole story pisses me off but what really gets me is the fact that they're trying to say she wasn't drinking to drink. That it was because of a medical reason. I've known people who have had strokes. They didn't all of sudden feel the need to drink alcohol. This lawyer sounds like an ex friend of mine. He had/has a major drinking and drug problem. His stories were a lot like what the lawyer is trying to pull.

They are def. using that defense because there is no doubt that the husband is going to be sued by the family of the men in the other car.

This story makes me sick. When I heard this I started crying. : (  Something def. does not add up though. How can you not know she had alcohol or drugs in her system. She secretly went to the bathroom and did it before they left??? So strange.
