I think we could get by not having a monitor in Lila's room, but I also like having it there. Is there a solution that doesn't involve having two separate monitors?
We have 2 monitors, one in each room. I probably wouldn't use them at all anymore (kids are now 18 mos and 3.5 years), but our bedroom is on the second floor and the kids are on the first floor, so I feel safer using the monitors. We have a Cape Cod, hence the bedroom situation.

This is the case for us, too. DS is 4 now, but I still have a monitor in his room because I can't hear him if he wakes up crying (and he sometimes does if he's had a bad dream or something.)
