Smiling Question

I know this may seem like an odd question but I am curious what you counted as your LO's first smile.

 1. Did you count your LO's first smile as the time they "first" smiled while awake?

OR

2. Did you count your LO's first smile as the time they could smile and continued to smile all the time?

DD smiles in her sleep a lot and has smiled a few times here and there since about a month.  However, she hasn't smiled and kept smiling.  So, I am wondering when did you count your LO's first smile.

Re: Smiling Question

  • I counted both the smile while sleeping and his first smile at me or DH (or whatever) while awake. He still doesn't necessarily keep smiling for long periods of time yet. He's kind of a fussy baby. Smile

  • I didnt actually count his first smile until he did it while awake and engaged in something appealing. Once he smiled and starting smiling everytime we made funny faces or blew raspberries at him we knew it was the real thing!

  • DS would smirk at us when he was about 3 weeks old, but didn't really *smile* until he was about 6 weeks.  I consider it a real smile when you can tell it's because he's really happy, not just automatic...and his eyes look happy, too.
  • I count it as the first conscience smile meaning he is awake not asleep. Jake has not had his first awake smile yet.

    same here.

  • I counted it when it was in reaction to DH or I. She had one morning where she was just laying kicking her feet and she was smiling, but a few days later, I got that big baby grin in response to me talking/playing with her. I count the second example as her first "real" smile.
  • My DS gave me the biggest goofy gummy smiles the other day while I was playing and singing to him.  He did it for a good ten minutes straight, but hasn't done it since!!  I've tried everything!
