XP: I need help from those whose LO have food allergies

I EBF and am starting to think Jack has some food allergies.  We're going to the ped today, but I'm hoping you can fill me in on how allergies manifested themselves in your LO.

-I gave up dairy for 10 days a few months ago to see if it helped his GERD.  It didn't, so I went back to dairy.  His GERD has been improving the last few weeks
-After not pooping for 3 days (not normal for my little guy), he unloaded yesterday at 4 am.  There was blood and mucus in his stool.  Every poopy diaper since then has had some blood/mucus in it.  This morning's diaper had a trace of blood and what looked like large curds
-the skin on his legs is mildly dry
-he scrunches up his legs and grunts a bit, but doesn't scream or fuss.  He also does this to get on to his side since he likes to roll now.

I'm thinking this might be more eggs than dairy.  I eat dairy daily, but only have had "eggs" a few times since he was born.  About 9 hrs before he started pooping blood, I had a 3 egg scramble (with some cheese).

Please tell me about your LO's allergies.

  • Is there any way you could eliminate from your diet the eggs first and then the milk to see if that's what's bothering him?  I am so sorry.  I don't have anything else to offer right now.  DS only has a mild dairy upset.  I hope your DS feels better very soon.

  • I've cut them both out for now until I see my ped later today.  Cutting just the eggs and then the dairy might be a good idea.

    Thanks!

  • I'm sorry I don't have more help.  But I really hope things work out soon and you can figure out quickly what's going on.
  • Yikes!!  Blood is not good so definitely cut out the eggs for now.  With dairy, you need at least 3 weeks for it to leave your system so if he is still having symptoms after cutting out eggs, I would try dairy elimination for a month.  I've been dairy free for over a year and a half and it's not that hard but it takes getting used to.

  • My son has MSPI and food allergies, including eggs.  I would probably eliminate dairy and eggs then add one back in & wait for a reaction.  My son didn't show a reaction to eggs until 2 days after I ate them.  It also took nearly a month after eliminating dairy for us to see complete results.  Good luck!!
