What will you use for post-delivery mess

Mess meaning everything that comes out after...

Ive heard a mix on here in earlier months of using anything from a heavy pad to depends...

when my cousin just had her baby she said she'd fall alseep and wake up covered in blood... it slowed after the first night.. but still..

Im trying to think what would be the better choice? maybe both :o)

Re: What will you use for post-delivery mess

  • Hospital will have the huge pads that you will need for the first few days. After I went home with first DS, the heavy absorbancy pads with wings worked fine.  I didn't bleed too long either.
  • Loading the player...
  • I will be using Always Overnight Pads in the purple pack.  I am also going to use a plastic matress cover as a back up for leaks.
  • I was thinking about just using a thick, overnight maxi pad and sleeping on a big gauze sheet thing that my Bradley instructor said they gave you at the hospital, lol.  I think she called them chucks pads?  But I have no idea... I'll just make a mess I guess, lol.

  • just pads. i'm hoping I can steal a few extra huge ones from the hospital if I think its still gonna be heavy - but your right typically its only heavier flow for the first day or two - so I hear.
  • The hospital is providing those big pads that look like adult diapers.  I did buy Always Infinity overnights and regulars. I was not sure if I really needed the purple pack but will buy it if bleeding is still that heavy after using up the hospital-grade diapers (I mean pads!) LOL!

  • For me, I had the "worst/heaviest" flow for the first 48 hours after birth with both DD and DS.  When I got home, I used the regular hospital maxi pads with the witchhazel pads and the dibucaine ointment to help heal.  DH went out and bought me the Always overnight pads with wings.  These worked fantastic since they are longer than the regular pads and there was less chance of leaks.

FWIW, as long as you continue to go to the bathroom and change your pads, you shouldn't experience any big messes.  I think overall, I ruined one pair of underwear and had a little leak in the hospital.

  • My hospital had HUGE pads that I used. I brought some extras home with me and used them for a day or two. Then heavy pads were fine. The first day was the worst, then it got better from there.
  • I am using the Always Overnight pads as well.  They are just as big as the hospital pads, but they have like 2 sets of wings!  I am also going to be sleeping on disposable puppy piddle pads.  I had some heavy bleeding in 1st tri and we had some around the house.  They worked wonders and can easily be thrown away once soiled.
  • My hospital gave me humongous pads to use while there, and also gave me a bunch to take home.  But by the time I got home, most of the bleeding was through and I was able to wear just regular maxi pads.
  • A zamboni....   I went out and got the Always Infinity and I have some of the hospital bed pads at home.
