For those who have potty trained boys

Just not really sure what to do. My DS is 3 months shy of turning 2 and for the past couple of months he's been taking off his diaper (every time I put one on, it comes off within 5 minutes). He'll climb up on the adult toilet when the lid is closed and "pretend" to go pee, and sometimes he'll go over to his potty chair and sit on it without going pee. Then he'll get up and go pee anywhere and everywhere in the house (on the floors). Of course, I keep putting diapers on him, and sometimes I'll just let him walk around naked and show him where to go potty, but being 1, he's not really getting it. Anyhow, I've potty trained 3 kids, but it's been a while since doing so with a boy (my other son is 8), so I'm open to any suggestions you might have in transitioning him from diaper to the toilet.

  • My DS was really into taking his diaper off at that age, too.  BUT--he wasn't potty trained until a year later.  Honestly, I would just find size 24 month onesies, safety pin them shut, and keep his diaper on him.  Not sure if that's the right thing to do, just my humble opinion :)

  • DS would do that too here and there, and we would think that he was ready to start.  One day I just took his little potty, sat it in the living room and let him run around in his underwear all day.  Worked like a charm, he's been going on this big boy potty every since and we've probably had a handful of accidents since that day.

I know it's a bit unconventional, but it putting the little potty in the living room kept it in his mind!
