High Blood Pressure and TTC

Anyone like me out there?  I'm on meds to control it and I've been fine.  I'm a little worried about it with pregnancy though.  Dr. said the med I'm on (labetalol) is safe for pregnancy but it's listed as a class C which could just be because it hasn't been fully tested on humans.  I'm going to talk to my Dr. but wanted to see if anyone was out there dealing with the same thing

I did not have high BP before pregnancy but get it during pregnancy... With my son I was put on labetalol when I was in the hospital and for 6 weeks pp. Lots of ladies are on it and have very good luck keeping their BP under control with it.

I had high blood pressure before getting pregnant and got put on labetalol.  100 mg once a day is keeping my BP in check so far and baby is measuring on time.  That seems to be one of the biggest concerns being on BP meds, because when your BP gets slowed down it can slow down baby's growth also.  I see my OB and a perinatologist both, and get more frequent U/S to make sure baby's growth is what it should be.  I've been told that I have a 25% chance of pre-e because of the high blood pressure, and did a 24 hour urine test for a baseline around 12 weeks.  So far the labetalol is doing the trick, but my perinatologist said if it stops working he will switch me to nifedipine.

You will be fine. I had high bp prior to getting pregnant and my fam dr knew that we were going to ttc after our wedding in october and so she put me on labetalol bc it was safe for pregnancy. Well little did we know we were going to get a suprise blessing. My blood pressure is for the most part very much under control. When i asked her about the med she told me, this is the med that most ppl with high bp during pregnancy get. Good luck

I am! I've had Chronic Hypertenstion on and off since I had Pre Eclampsia with my last child 6+ years ago. I have been on meds and off, oddly everytime I visit the Dr she isn't concerned, I just had a physical and my BP was 136/92-140/90. I told her I was TTC and she wasn't concerned at all, but I am. I am not on meds now.  I lost my baby back in January at 18 weeks, 6mos prior to that pregnancy, my BP was 120/80, no meds. At my 15 week appt, the OB labeled me as Chronic since my BP were ranging 140/90-160/100, she put me on the lowest dose of Aldomet, which didn't help and I had higher readings after I started taking it. After taking it for 3 weeks, my daughter died from Turners Syndrome, so that was the end of meds. Six weeks postpartum my BP was 128/90 and OB wasn't concerned, told me not to resume taking the meds. I am thinking about doing a consult with a Peri just to make sure it is safe for me to TTC, I'm really scared my BP will rise high once I'm pregnant, since IMO it's already higher than I would like for it to be.

Thank you ladies for putting me at ease.  I knew I wasn't the only one and now I feel mush better.  Lots of baby dust!
