Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Back from my f/u appt!

I'm feeling good right now about a lot of things!  Gosh, I don't think I felt this good in a REALLY long time (and this is after feeling so low last night - the rollercoaster grief ride is so true!)!  Okay, so I just had my first follow-up appt today at the ob.  I was a little concerned with how she would be, but she was wonderful!  DH and I talked to her for probably a half an hour before she did any of her exam.  Her first question was how am I.  I said okay and she asked if I am really okay.  It started things off nicely and let me feel like she really wanted to help us.  We went over everything - basically the past (what happened with our pregnancy), the present (how I'm doing and what I can do) and the future (when we can TTC and what a future pg might hold for us).  I won't bog you down with all the details (please pm me or just ask if you have any more specific questions), but there were a few interesting things I'll share:

- she said that they tell people to wait for 3 months to ttcal.  She said we can either count from their birth or when I finally stopped bleeding (which was just maybe about a week ago, but I really only spotted after their birth, not bled).  She said the reason is to let there be a build-up of prenatal vitamins in your system solely for the new pg.  I questioned her a lot about the uterine lining and if that's why we should wait and if the fact that I got pg after the first cycle after I m/c'd last time could have caused any problems.  She said that our period is the shedding of our uterine lining, so there's no need to let it build back up over time, that it does automatically after each period.  Also, she said that there's no reason to think that could have caused my issues.

- I can finally start to work out again.  It's been so long b/c I wasn't supposed to when I got pg b/c I was high-risk from the start, then I was on bedrest and I was really anemic after the birth, so I'm sooooo out-of-shape.  Needless to say, working out really helps me feel so good - both physically and mentally.

- She referred me to the peri I was seeing to maybe see if they can help with some of the why ?s we have and also what the plan going ahead will be.

- She also told me to go to my primary dr. just to double-check my heart.  She asked if I had felt any heart palpitations since Ian and Colin's birth and I said that faintly I may have a couple times.  She said that pregnancy can change our bodies sometimes, so I might as well check everything out before I get pg again.  On that note, I had bloodwork done today to check my iron and thyroid levels.  I'll find out about those w/in a week.

I'm excited to feel like I have more of a plan.  That I can move forward some more now.  That I can start having sex again and start ttc at the beginning of Oct!  That I can work out and lift more than 10 lbs!  That I can start to returning to something that more resembles normal again.  I'm happy and hopeful!

  • It sounds like you have a wonderful doctor who took her time with you and answered everything that you wanted answered.  It sounds like a really great plan that you have and you will be armed with a ton of knowledge before your next pregnancy.  I'm glad you can get back into a routine I hope that it helps with everything, I know that it helped me somewhat.  I'm really excited for you that you had such a great appt today!!  Hugs.

  • I'm so glad you had a good appointment!  I have my two week appointment tomorrow and now I'm excited to see what my doctors have to say. I'm hoping we can start TTC again in October, too.

Oh, and you just reminded me that I forgot to take my vitamin today - thanks!

  • Wow - great news! I'm so glad you had a good appt and have such a positive outcome!
