Tell me about Prefolds...

Tell me about them...I'm considering adding them to our stash (on days when DH works, because I know he won't want to deal with it...LOL)...we use BG 3.0s right now.

Do they soak up a lot?

Easy to fold and use?  Which fold do you use?

Which brand/type do you have?

What do you secure them with?

Re: Tell me about Prefolds...

  • FWIW, DH does PFs well- there's a learning curve, but they're not too hard.

We only use PFs, so I can't compare them to BGs. As a newborn, I changed DS all the time- usually every 20 minutes-1 hour, sometimes as long as 2 hours. He no longer needs to be changed nearly as often, but I don't let him wet the same PF twice- that gets messy! So yes, they soak up a lot, but you still have to change frequently. You can always double them up for overnight, etc, though I don't need to (DS also woke when wet, so it wasn't ever an option not to change him at night).

I think they're easy to use- I don't spend any more time securing them than I would a sposie. We usually use the angel wing fold. Again, there's a learning curve for getting them on tight, etc, but it won't take too long to get it.

Definitely get DSQ from someplace like like GMD, babycottonbottoms.com, or luvaboos.com. (Or used from diaperswappers, etc.) We have Chinese PFs, but from what I understand Indian are pretty similar.

Love the snappis! But then, the pins I got (from BRU?) won't go through the first layer of PF, not sure why Stick out tongue HTH, sorry I'm so wordy tonight!

  • DH didn't think he'd like them either.  But now he's a pro.  And he likes them because they're so much less expensive than other CDs.

    1. Yes, probably more than most of our pocket inserts.  In fact, I've used them as an insert before.

    2. Yes, sometimes I just trifold it and lay it in.  Sometimes I'll do an angel fold.  There are websites and YouTube videos that will walk you through it.

    3. Green Mountain unbleached Indian prefolds (I think).

    4.  A snappi.  Or nothing when we just tirfold it.  I've never used, nor do we even own, pins.
