Confusing info from dr office today

So I am on my second round of clomid, 100mg.  I have not ovulated since tracking it in December.  I go to day 14 ultrasound (actually went on day 13 because day 14 was a Sat) and the ultrasound tech tells me all signs point toward ovulation.  She sees follies and lining looks nice and thick.  I go home pumped and then on Sunday I get the be O symbol on my digital OPK.  I get the sign again though on Monday.  The dr usually calls me after my ultrasound to confirm what she sees.  I hadn't received a call yet so I called the office today and spoke with a medical assistant.  She pulled my chart and had a nurse looka t the ultrasound.  She called me back to say that the nurse did not see any dominant follies so I will more than likely not ovulate.  I told her the result of my OPK and she just said she couldn't rule out ovulation but that it didn't look like it happened.  The Dr is out the whole week apparently.

I know I will do blood work on day 21 and I guess this will confirm whether I ovulated or not, but I just don't see how the ultrasound tech saw several follies that looked good and the nurse looking at the same images doesn't see any.  I am pretty bummed now so thanks for letting me get this off my chest.  DH is in a meeting at work and we have not talked to anyone else about our IF so I can't really talk to anyone.

  • They should definitely be doing bloodwork along with your ultrasounds to figure out when you will ovulate.  If you were going to ovulate around Day 13 or 14, your blood would have shown an LH surge (which is what your OPK should also pick up).  There are definitely false positives on OPKs, which is why bloodwork is important.  You might want to ask your RE to monitor your cycle more closely to know exactly when/if you will ovulate so that you can time intercourse precisely.

  • They previously did my bloodwork on day 21 to determine if I have ovulated.  Are you suppose to have bloodwork on day 13 or 14 instead?  I was told by my dr that if I didn't ovulate this cycle I was going to be referred to a RE.  I like my office and they have the resources to monitor me on clomid, but I will be glad to get to someone who only handle IF.
