It is a protective sheet cover that goes over your crib sheet. It is a lot easier to change if baby has an accident, you just have to remove the top layer and place another on, rather then the whole sheet. Easier at night when you are tired.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

i think pp is right -it is also easier to take off in the middle of the night. It doesn't hug the mattress like a sheet; it attaches at the four corners to the crib.
The ultimate crib sheet is not clear, it's white, but you can only see it if you are looking down into the crib. From the outside, you can see the sheet.

you're thinking of the ultimate crib sheet. It fastens in all four corners. Way better than a sheet saver.
But is it like clear or something so you can still see the design on the actual sheet?
Nope- it's either a color or white. I thought about the same thing, but I doubt I will care about being able to see the design on the sheet when LO poops everywhere at 3am.

Hmm, what a cool invention. I probably won't use it (I'm doing solid fitted sheets and no bedding set anywhoo), but that's a pretty rad thing to think up and make money off of.

It is not the size of a crib sheet. I actually use it on my changing pad. If you have a solid back crib, you can't use the sheet saver or really even the UCS because you have nothing to tie one side too.

Just to warn you, even if you get plain sheets lifting off the mattress to replace it is a huge PIA at 3am. Sheets fit pretty snuggly and the mattress in the crib usually does as well. Worth registering for a couple to see if you like the convienance of it.

Huge waste. It takes just as long to snap all those snaps, if not longer. Plus it's ugly. Made my crib look horrible. I've NEVER had to change sheets in the middle of the night. They make it seem like you do this all the time.
I think newborns rarely have night accidents (or maybe mine just never did because she never slept through the night!)
But, what she did do was spit up and drool in her sleep. There are pads that go on top of the sheet to catch the drool and let you use the sheet a lot longer. We just used a soft flannel cloth baby wipe.
I've also seen awesome pads for cosleeping that are large enough to go under baby and mom's torso, for breastfeeding leaks and baby drool/spitup.

It's a waterproof pad that goes underneath the sheet. They usually come two to a pack for about $12. They are lifesavers and can be used again during potty training.

I also have never had to change DS' sheets because of an accident. Not once. They are not necessary.

The Ultimate Crib Sheet is different then a sheet saver. This is the sheet saver: https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3256036
