1st Trimester

when did you need new pants?

I know it's early, but I was wondering when everyone got maternity pants. There are some long and lean ones on sale from The Gap, but I wasn't sure if I should get them this early just to sit in my closet. Also do you prefer full panel or hidden panel?

Re: when did you need new pants?

  • You might want to post this on 2nd tri.  I'm 10 weeks and still wearing my regular clothes.

  • I didn't start wearing maternity pants until 23 weeks. I liked full panel once I did start wearing them.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • I needed new pants before my BFP so I am really suffering now.  :)
  • I thought I would need them sooner because I was so bloated, but then the m/s kicked in and I actually lost a few pounds.  So I'm at the point where I just wear dresses and I'm doing the rubber band trick on my dress pants for work.  I think after my 12 week appt I'll go out and buy a pair of maternity pants though.  It does suck though when I sit down and my pants cut off my circulation lol.  The Bella Band is good for that!

  • With my son I started wearing maternity pants at 12 weeks. Tops about 14 weeks. I may need them sooner this time! I liked the hidden panel.

  • 15 weeks and full panel - they were much more comfortable for me and i felt like i was more "intact" with the full panel, if that makes any sense

  • I wear them off and on depending on how bloated I am and I like full panel much better
  • I'm glad to see I'm not alone... I'm already down to just 2 pairs of pants that fit and I might need maternity pants within a couple of weeks!  This bloat is unbelievable - I haven't gained a single pound but I look like a whale.

  • I had to buy some this last weekend.  Mostly because I didn't have m/s, and thus gained about 5 lbs since BFP, and it is all freaking in my waist!

ETA:  I just bought one-size-up pants.  You're going to need bigger pants post-partum, so you might consider this before you move on to full-on mat pants.

  • I am in them now but this is also my third child. I LOVE the secret fit at motherhood and won't wear anything else after trying them on..

This is what I did!   And the next size up pants are SO much more comfortable and still have room in the waist for me to grow.  It will also be nice when it's time to back to work to have some bigger size clothes to go to!

  • Starting to buy maternity now.

     You can try Bella Band...

  • I've been wearing the Bella Band for the past few weeks. I'm thinking of buying a few bigger sized pants to hold me over for awhile.

  • I need new pants.  Can't decide if I want to buy larger or maternity pants.  I should just try some on and see which I like better.

  • I started getting uncomfortable at week eight, stuck with my regular clothes until week 9 and for the last almost 2 weeks have been wearing full pannel maternity jeans but just rolling it in half, and i LOVE the liz lange ones from target. I only got jeans and got a bella band for my capris and shorts, because i figure im not buying summer clothes that will only be in season for 2 months. i bought my first couple shirts this weekend, mainly because with my boobs getting bigger, they seemed to get get shorter. The shirts I got actually are really cute and dont look like maternity shirts.
  • Still not in them.  Everything has fit fine, my bloating has been minimal (probably because I drink tons of water).  Last night in church was my worst bloating yet - I had on jeans (had been wearing sweats all weekend) and actually had to unbutton them (long shirt, thankfully) while sitting in the pew because they were digging into me.

But then this morning I put on dress pants that usually just fit me, fully expecting to start having to wear my Be Band.  But go figure, they fit perfectly.

Looking forward to wearing the maternity pants that I bought - they're so comfy! But I'm hoping to hold off on that for at least another month- I'm in my brother's wedding Labor Day weekend and need to fit in my dress!

Try on before you do this - I ended up with maternity pants because honestly, one size bigger for me made me look SO frumpy because my ass and my legs were swimming in them.  I am small to begin with.  I bought maternity at about 8 weeks, but I have two in here, so I have gained more than the average pg person.
