diagnosed with PCOS

Hi Everyone, I was just diagnosed with pcos this morning at my ultrasound.  I haven't had my follow up appointment with my obgyn yet. Therefore, I wanted to get advice on what questions to ask him about this.  DH and I have been trying to get pregnant for just a month, but my irregular cycles and low bbt were signs.  I'm having a pretty hard time with this diagnosis (emotionally) and any info will help me.

Thanks

Re: diagnosed with PCOS

  • First of all, let me tell you that I'm sorry you're having issues.  Second, lots of ladies on this board have PCOS and can be a great support for you.  I highly suggest that you see an RE (reproductive endocrinologist) who can monitor you with any meds you might be on.  They'll probably put you on Clomid before they try anything else and might suggest IUI.

    Good Luck!

  • thank you for your support!
  • Sorry you got some crappy news!  There are plenty of girls here with PCOS (myself included) and quite a few who have graduated onto get pregnant and have babies!  If you check back in tomorrow, there is a twice weekly PCOS Check-In that might help you.  Also, there is a PCOS Bio you can search for and the website www.soulcysters.com is a great resource.  Best of luck!

  • I have PCOS too.  Make sure you ask about Metformin, it can really help your ovaries not produce cysts and helps fertility.  It can make you a little sick, but I have also found that it helps with weight loss.  Its worth asking.  I'm sorry you had to receive this news.  I cried when I got my diagnosis, because my sister also has PCOS and I feared that I would have the same infertility issues she had  and now look at me :  (  Some good news though, after years and years of trying, sadness, and frustration...she finally has a gorgeous baby girl.

    Good luck!

  • I was just diagonised with PCOS on Friday, so I can relate to the range of emotions that you are going through right now.  For me, the course of action is to try Metformin and weight loss first and then progress to Clomid if that doesn't work.

Good luck!  I hope your followup appointment provide you some answers.

  • Thank you so much for all the support, it really has helped make this day more tolerable. I never thought I'd be facing this but it gives me hope. It helps me to know I'm not alone. Thank you again!
  • I wish you the best of luck.  Being diagnosed with PCOS is very hard (even though it could be worse).  I find this board very helpful and you will learn a lot!
