Question about "Hypnobirthing: The Mongan Method"

This book was recommended by some of you to help prepare me for a natural birth.  I found a copy at a local used book store for $4, but it didn't have the CD included.  Do I need the CD?  I'm going to do a search to see if I can download the CD separately, but if anyone knows that would be great!

  • Ooh, I'm interested in the answer too.  I bought a $3 copy at a maternity consignment store.

  • Hmmm...I'm not sure about that. I just ordered my copy from Amazon, and made sure I got a cd with it, just in case. I read that the cd is called "Hypnosis for Childbirth" and walks you through some relaxation methods.

    EDD: 03/01/13;  DD: 10/26/13

Mourning the loss of Amarine Stella, born at 21 weeks, 6 days.
We will always love you, our little angel.
  • I've only gotten through about half the book (and I haven't listened to the CD yet), but I would think that if you're trying to do it kind of "home study," then the CD is probably pretty crucial.  If you are taking a class, I bet the CD comes with the course materials.
  • If you are planning to study hypnobirthing on your own (as opposed to in a course led by certified instructor) I would highly recommend getting and using the CD.  I personally would find it hard to conceptualize a lot of the techniques based solely on written material.  If, however, you plan to take a course, you might be able to skip the CD.  I became so familiar and comfortable with our instructor that I actually found the CD distracting.  We ended up programming our iPod with the same music she used during class.  It all worked out great.  Good luck!
  • The CD is useful, but different than the materials you'll be given if you go to a class.  If you aren't taking a class, see if you can get your hands on the materials - particularly the birth scripts and Rainbow Relaxation cd.  If you can't, but can get your hands on the book cd, do.  It's really relaxing guided hypnosis.

Absolutely crucial?  No.  But it makes things easier.
