HE washer questions

We're going to my mom's house this week and I'll be using her HE washer and dryer (I'm used to our top loader). I know we use less soap (our normal CD soap is ok for HE.. we just use less), but what cycles do we use? I know it has a sanitize cycle (which I think is its "hot" cycle.. I was concerned it would be too hot though.. is that a problem?) and a silver cycle (is that ok?). Do I just do the regular cold rinse/hot wash/cold rinse like I do at home or do I need to add extra rinses? Any other things I should know?

Re: HE washer questions

  • Ohmygosh I LOVE your siggy!

I have an LG front loader - on ours the sanitize = extra hot; we also have a hot cycle. I use the regular hot cycle mostly and once a week or so the sanitize cycle.

Also, make sure you adjust the soil level setting to heavy - it uses more water.

  • I have an LG frontloader, too.  I do delicate cold/cold cycle set to heavy soil w/ vinegar (delicate uses more water than regular), then a hot/cold normal wash set to heavy with an extra rinse w/ detergent, and finally a warm/warm delicate cycle set to regular soil sometimes with an extra rinse w/ no detergent or anything.  Works great!

You may need more rinses than with your top-loader, but you might be fine.  I wouldn't use the sanitary setting if you have any elastic or PUL or anything because it is SUPER hot and can damage diapers.  Prefolds or flats only might be okay, though.
