car seat position question

DD is outgrowing her chicco car eat. Her feet are pressing against the seat. Now I will be getting a britax (not sure which model) When I gt it, do I continue to have her face the rear or should I have her face front? thanks

  • When they turn 1 and are a certain weight they can face front (i think 23 lbs.) But, I've read that it's really best to stay rear facing until age 2 if possible, so that's what I'm going to do with DS until his legs get too cramped.

  • It is certainly safer and far more ideal to keep them rear facing as long as possible however it is legal to turn them forward.  DD is rear facing and will stay that way probably til age 2 (or until she gets too uncomfortable)

  • Kids need to be 1 year and at least 20 lbs. to sit front-facing.  However, it is recommended to keep them rear-facing until age 2 (or they outgrow the rear-facing capacity of their car seat).  Over 1 year, they likely will need to bend their legs to fit in the seat rear-facing; that's ok.  It's still the safest way to ride.

  • We have DD rear facing in her Britax Marathon and will probably keep her that way for awhile.  Her feet touch the seat, but she doesn't seem to mind having to bend her legs for rides.
