Anyone use them? I used regaular disposable Huggies with my first baby, but now I'm thinking about using cloth diapers for my second (at least while we're at the house) until he starts solids. Has anyone done this? Do you get tired of washing them? Is it worth it?
Re: Cloth Diapers
We've used them from the first week with DS and love them. I do not get tired of washing them, and think it's totally worth it.
Also, we are still using them. We used flushable liners to get us through the gross poo stage when he first started solids, but within a month or two, his poo got solid enough that we just plop it into the toilet, and 95% of the time nothing even sticks to the diaper.
I think it's totally worth it. There are a ton of choices and it can be overwhelming. Ask on the EFF board if you have any questions, those ladies can tell you everything.
We have been using CDs since the day DD as born and plan to use them with DD#2 also. I don't find doing the laundry a big deal at all -- for us, it's just one load every two days. Most of her poop now just plops in the toilet as pp said, occassionally I have to use the diaper spray we got to spray the poop into the toilet -- we never used flushable liners. I have not found this a big deal at all.
We started with Kissaluv Newborns with prorap covers. We now use BG3.0s with Hemp inserts (more absorbent and makes the diaper thinner) from Artsy Foo Foo on etsy.
I have used them with DD since she was 6 weeks old. Washing really doesn't get old. It's just routine now. I wash every 3 days. I usually throw them in before bed and during the winter toss them in the dryer in the morning and in the summer I hang then out to dry.
We use BG 3.0 diapers.
We use BumGenius 3.0's, and we've been using them since DS was about 6 weeks old. We did the $10 cloth diaper trial from Jillian's Drawers and liked those the best out of the ones we tried - I would recommend the trial program to get a feel for cloth diapering and to see what brand you might prefer.
The laundry is no big deal. We do a load every other day. We toss them in the wash for a cold rinse right before DS's bath, and by the time he's down for the night it's time to add detergent and do the hot cycle, and then right before we go to bed we'll move them to the dryer so they'll be ready to fold in the morning. Once a month we add a bit of bleach to the detergent cycle to help fight stains and odors. It's just part of the routine now!
As far as poop removal goes, we bought a sprayer that attaches to the toilet that helps rinse off the diapers before we put them in the wet bag. I like having that available to combat some of the nastier diapers DS presents us with.
We really love cloth diapers and are so glad we tried them. Give them a shot! Oh, and definitely lurk around the Eco-Friendly Family board a bit - they are full of helpful tips and advice.
I have been using them since DS #1. Get one size all in ones (bumgenius or happy heines). Then all the diapers fit everyone and you are never out of one size. Also, I am noticing that my bummgeniuses velcro tabs are starting to wearout. My Happies are much better.
Thanks, Ladies! This is really helpful information.
