Where to have soil tested?

I live in LA so I'm wondering if there is anywhere you can send your soil (as I'm sure there isn't a DNR office around the corner) to have it tested. I just read about the Obama garden and we have a garden and now I want to know what's in our soil....

Call your county.  There are lead abatement programs in most counties and they will likely come out and do it for you for free.  There might be a small wait but the test is very comprehensive.

Our agronomics/county extension offices will do basic testing for a free and test for other stuff (metals, etc.) for a small fee.
