Cotton VS Wool Flannel

OK so I have both and know both can be used for various types of CD covers/inserts/liners or whatever. I want to make a wool flannel cover.  Do I have to lanolize it like regular wool covers or will it be a water barrier because  it is flannel?  Also what purposes do you use your flannel (cotton and wool)for?  Sorry for the seemingly stupid questions!

Re: Cotton VS Wool Flannel

  • I'm not completely familiar with wool flannel - is it 100% wool? If so then you don't need to lanolize it (you don't need to lanolize regular wool covers either, it just makes them even more waterproof). I'm pretty sure that felted wool can also be used as inserts because it's so absorbent. Wool actually isn't waterproof - it's just that it can hold up to 30% of it's weight in moisture before feeling wet so it's actually just very absorbent and works as a good water barrier because of that.

As for cotton, cotton fleece, cotton velour, etc, you can use it for any absorbent layer in a diaper. Inserts, inners, outers to fitteds.
