S/O LO lunch - BP?

So both my Dr. and my mother (as well as overthinking daddy!) says giving BP before 2 years increases chances of allergies to it later.

Howerver, DD LOVES PB&J and she has NO allergies and has no reaction to BP since she first had it (a taste of it around 6 months).

So, is it really THAT crucial that I not give BP to her? Her dad freaks out when he knows I gave it to her...I think hes just over reacting....

  • is BP meant to be Peanut Butter? If so, I think it only matters if you have nut allergies in your family, but ask your pediatrician if you're worried. We've been giving DD PB since she was 1 year old.

  • Peanut Butter?

Our pedi said it was OK at our 12 mo visit (I asked, since ther are nut allergies in my family). He said the evidence on waiting is conflicting. We haven't tried it yet, but I did buy some the other day at the store.

The only thing he said to wait on was shellfish (allergies also run in my family).

  • I'm assuming you mean PB (peanut butter)?? I feed my DD PB regularly- she loves it too. The current thought is that if kids are going to react to it, it will happen whether they are exposed to it earlier or later... so it is just a matter of when you want to find out. Since your DD has had it multiple times with no issues, she should be fine. Of course, I'm not an allergist, so if you are concerned you should get a professional's opinion.
