2nd Trimester

Question: Hair dye???

Okay, it's been forever since I've had my hair colored, exactly one month since before I found out I was pregnant.  Now my roots are showing...bad! To the point where when I put my hair up in a ponytail, the top is dark, and the flowing hair is light.  So, my question is, has anyone gotten their hair colored while they were pregnant, and if so what kind of dye did the salon use, or was it store bought?? I'm going to the salon regardless next week to get my hair cut, but do I get it colored and highlighted like I always do???? I need advice.   Confused

Re: Question: Hair dye???

  • I am about 75% gray already (only 28 yrs old) so I dye regularly.  I use natural instincts non permanent which has no amonia.  I also try to be very careful not to get it on my scalp.  I am also in a well ventilated room during application.  The only thing I do different is wait longer between applications.  I normally to dye every 4 weeks, now I try to wait to about 6 weeks.

  • My Dr. said it was perfectly fine once you hit the second tri, so I got highlights once I was past that mark. Did you ask your Dr.?
  • I got a full highlight in June right around 17 weeks & I go back in 2 weeks & I'm doing low/highlights.........they say after the 1st tri your safe
  • I'm a hairdresser and I've been working with it every day and I've gotten my hair highlighted twice and colored once since being pregnant.  If you're really worried about it- just do highlights or highlight and lowlites, so the color doesn't touch your scalp.
  • My doc asked me to wait to color my hair till I was out of the first trimester.

I got mine done for the first time in 3 months yesterday!  :)  I feel purdy.

  • I got my hair colored during 1st tri and going again in 2 weeks. I have no idea what kind of products they use but both my OB and stylist (who just had a baby) said it's nothing to worry about. I just do it like I always do- every 8 weeks.?
  • Thanks guys.... I think I'll get mine colored after all.  I just wasn't sure until now.  Man does my hair need it too....it's frightening!! Wink
  • I get my hair colored regularly. I work at a salon and am not bothered at all. The girls keep my hair pretty with peroxide- and ammonia-free dye.?
  • My hair stylist is using semi permanent dye while I'm pregnant but still using bleach for my highlights since the bleach doesn't touch my skin at all.

  • I got mine done at 12 weeks, my doc said it as okay at any point.  My hairdresser said if there were issues she would make me fill out a release form everytime I got my hair done, even if I didn't know I was pregnant.  She was joking of course.
  • I had my highlights done very early in pregnancy and also just two days ago. I'm not exactly sure what she uses, but it's nothing different from my pre-pregnancy formula. It's some sort of bleach. My doctor said highlights are just fine to get.

Also, my hairstylist has 4 children. She has worked in the salon throughout all of her pregnancies and her children are all very healthy and great. If she can be around it all day everyday and be ok, I think a few times in a pregnancy can't hurt either.

Go get it done and you'll feel so good which we all need at some point during our pregnancy!

  • I colored my hair my entire pregnancy - was ok'd by my dr
