I went to JCPennys the other day bc they had their maternity on sale and as I'm walking up to the racks, this lady is on her cell phone and goes, "Here's a pregnant girl about your age, I'll ask her." She had a question about this really ugly top and I told her it was a little bright for my taste but if her daughter didn't like it, she could always return it and she was really nice about it!! Then she asked me when I was due, and I told her December 10 and she goes, "Wow you are HUGE!(eyes got real big) my daughter is due on Christmas and she isn't even showing yet!"...as she is picking out XS size clothes...Sorry, not all of us are that small(I'm a normal size L)
I was so upset I walked away from her mid question about another top she wanted to buy and sat in the dressing room and cried....
Re: Rudest stranger comment ever!!
Was she still on the phone with her daughter when she said that?? If that would have been my mom, I would have been screaming over the phone, "Mom!!! Shut up!! That is so rude!!!"
I'm sorry.
That's messed up! Some people are so rude! I would have mentioned something about herself or just called her b*tch! She is lucky she didn't get punched in the face, some women do not take kindly to those type of comments.
oh, SOOO rude! Some people just have foot mouth disease. I hope she might not have meant it to sound rude, but just can't keep comments to herself.
FYI, I was in Dairy Queen with my husband and 6 year old son the other evening. They had Blizzards, I had a small sundae with nuts. When I stood up and the couple next to us saw I was pregnant, the man "loudly" said to his wife "yeah, Ice cream is real good for that baby...she might as well be drinking a beer"
WHAT!?
My DH says to me really loudly "want to go home and crack open that beer hun?" I almost peed my pants. And we walked out.
BAAAAHHH HAHAHAHA this cracked me up... Usually it's us preggos snarking at other's comments. Your DH is awesome!
I've come to the conclusion that pregnancy gives everyone "pregnancy brain," not just the mom-to-be. It just makes people stupid. Why else would they say some of the stuff they do?
That said, that woman probably didn't have the faintest clue that she was being rude. Not that it makes what she said in any way acceptable. And I agree with the pp who said that if she was still on the phone with her daughter at the time, if it'd been me, I would've been screaming, "Mom, STFU! You're being a clueless idiot!"
I probably would have said something bitchy. I have taken a no bullshit approach to people since about 3 weeks ago.
That was insanely rude. I hope for her grandchild's sake that her daughter isnt starving herself trying not to show. I'm showing pretty obviously and haven't had anyone say anything about it being too much-my doc says my weight gain is perfect so screw that lady-unless she's an OBGYN she has no right to comment on how big or small you are.
I am sorry
don't let people get to you though, I know that's super hard when you are pregnant and emotional. I have problems with that too. I kind of said something like that to my friend the other day though.
She is tiny already and she found out she was pregnant about 2 weeks ago and so she estimates from her LMP that she is about 8 weeks. But she looks like she is 3 months. It is her 2nd..but when I saw her I said "Are you sure you are only 8 weeks?" and felt really bad after saying that..but I was so surprised. It was more to do with her belly though, because like I said she is tiny. So don't take it too hard, as dumb and rude as the woman's comment was she probably just meant your baby bump was big, not that you were large yourself. Go to the 1st trimester board and read some over there, people will be jealous you have a baby bump at all!
omg I can't believe a guy would say that. Men don't know what its like to be pregnant. And he was eating ice cream too! And it sounds like you had a reasonable amount, not like you got a gallon and a spoon. Which made your DH's comment all the more awesome.
