I always see women who believe that their EDD is pretty accurate because they got their BFP early like around 3 weeks.
Why?
I got mine around 3 weeks, but I don't see how that would make it more accurate. I could see if you did IVF or you were tracking and knew the exact day you ovulated, but still don't all babies devolope diffrently?
I'm not saying they're wrong!!! I just don't understand.
TIA
Re: This may be a dumb question...
I agree. Finding out at 3 weeks that you are pregnant as opposed to finding out at 7 weeks is not a more reliable source of establishing your EDD than your LMP.
You are pregnant or you are not. When you find out doesn't really matter.
I know my EDD is accurate because I know what day we conceived.
ETA: however, as others have said EDD is always an estimate, not a date of delivery.
I wish they had a little timer like they do for turkeys so you knew when it was ready because it popped out and THEN you would go into labor.
Accurate dating is hard past 12 weeks because rates of development change dramatically, and lets be honest no one predicts the future that I know of. Only approx 20% of people actually go on their EDD a week early a week late is normally considered fine. I'm going with when he's ready he'll decided to come out.
I think the idea is that someone who knows they are pregnant at 3 weeks has a more accurate idea of when exactly they conceived than someone who finds out they are pregnant at 8 weeks.
Also, u/s performed at 5 or 6 weeks are the most accurate at dating pregnancies. The further along you are, the better chance that the u/s dating is slightly incorrect.
I had an U/S done at 4w6d and that's when I got my EDD and it hasn't changed yet (I have my big u/s in a week so we'll see then if it's changed)
I will have to test this out.
I still use my EDD as an estimate though, not a solid date.
