Re: Tell me about your Big US
Went in and LO was moving and shaking like crazy- it took about an hour and a half to get through it (but they let me pee 5 minutes into it). What took so long is they couldn't get a clear shot of the chambers of the heart, and she was on team uncooperative at that point. The tech had me walk the halls and move all around to see if LO would cooperate. No dice.
So two weeks later I had a level 2 (I also have previa). They did all the shots all over, I got to see LO for another hour, and they got all the photos they needed, including noticing LO is a she! (Showed us in the first 5 seconds!)
So even if things don't go great at this one, you may get a great follow up! I have some great pics from both!
It was awesome to see that little baby up on the screen, I couldnt keep the smile off my face the whole time! We were there for about an hour. With mine they check out the heart, lungs stomach and other organs to make sure they are developing ok, then they take measurements of the baby. If you want to know gender, typically when they get there they will tell you. If you dont want to know tell the tech right away so they don't give it away for you. We didn't mention whether we wanted to know or not, and when he got in that area, he just said, "well,I dont see any boy parts."
They will likely print you out a picture or few and send you on your way. We were in there for about an hour or so. Have fun!
'Til He returns, or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I stand.
I just had mine on Wednesday and she was all scrunched up in a ball b/c my bladder was SO full! She stretched out once they let me go to the bathroom. But...I drank OJ & ate some (dry) Cinnamon Toast Crunch on the way to the appt and she was moving all around and was not shy about showing us that she was a girl! Don't know if that helps you or not, but if you are wanting to know the gender, it definitely worked for me! I had my first U/S @ 14 wks & I have to say that she was so much more active this time - it was so much more fun to see her yawn & wave - we had a few 3D pics & even though she's super skinny right now, it was still amazing to see her face!!
Good Luck! Lets us know how it goes!
We had ours this past Wednesday at 19w1d. The tech was really nice and let me go to the bathroom after about 2 minutes of checking out the baby. I had told her to put the gender in an envelope for us and she was so sneaky, I had no idea when she actually looked "down there"...she was sealing the envelope and I was like "You got it?!?!"
It lasted about 45 minutes even when LO wasn't allowing a good shot of his spine initially...she gave me 5 minutes to move around and LO had flipped every which way giving her a great shot hehe
My big ultrasound was awesome! It lasted about 40 minutes. I don?t know if that?s average, but this just my experience. She took pictures of everything. I when I say everything I mean just that everything from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet. She had to send them off to be examined by?I don?t know who or why and I don?t really care. The ultrasound tech said everything looked really good, if anything he?s measuring a little big, but my husband was a big baby so that might be why. It was really nice. I got 9 pictures of my little boy. I got an arm, a hand, 2 profiles and 2 faces, and 2 pictures of his?ahem special place, and a foot picture. Again I don?t know if that?s typical, but that?s just what I got. All and all it was an awesome appointment. I hope your appointment goes as well as mine did. Good luck!!
I really lucked out I loved my radiologist, she does the level II herself, no techs. I went in and had my friend from nursing school with me, (she feels like she's the child's 3rd parent), The FI wasn't sure if he was gonna make it cuz of work and the timing but was trying to rush over. When she brought me in she did some quick scans to check position and decided since he was cooperating she was gonna check the heart first. The radiologisit pointed everything out to my friend, who is very intrested in cardio. I told her that my FI was on his way and she played around a little got a few cute pics of him and then decided she was gonna see one of the other babies who was giving her trouble with clear shots of the heart, to give us so spare time. My FI got to the hospital and she came back in rescanned the baby showed him the face and the arms and most important let him see the penis.
She said she loved having people who were interested in medicine and had a good sense of humor. Then decided I should let my friend in the delivery room for comic relief.
I was terrifed that the FI was never gonna get to see the baby on an u/s because of work and the fact that she not only waited but rescanned the baby but was so patient and willing to explain what was going on was WONDERFUL and I couldnt have asked for a better experience.
Not much to tell. Sean didn't cooperate much at all. At my nt scan he balled up and didn't move so the tech told me to drink something sugary or caffinated before this one-that backfired. He bounced around so much she couldnt get the spine measurements or see his heart but we DID get to see the goods so we know we're having a boy! The pics sucked (which is important to me since I'm a photographer) so that bummed me out-this child is going to have to learn to live with a camera in his face at some point!
Over all it was a decent expereince. Not super great but finding out we're FINALLY (after 3 girls) getting our boy was SUPER exciting. I go back Aug 21 for another u/s to get the rest of the measurements which is exciting too-bonus u/s!!! YAY!!!
