2nd Trimester

Scary Call from Doctor

So I went in to see my doctor yesterday b/c I was having contractions. She thought I may have been dehydrated so I was told to up my fluid intake to 80oz a day (I may have been doing half). To be on the safe side she gave me a Fetal fibronectin test to determine if I would be at risk to go into preterm labor. The results came back this morning and it was positive. So I am being pulled out of work for the next 2 weeks. The doctor did tell me that the chances are slim that I will actually go into labor but they did want to watch me and make sure.

I am trying hard not to stress which I'm sure could only make matters worse. Has anyone else had this test and it come back positive? If so what was your outcome? I am freaking out b/c I am only 24 weeks and with this pregnancy I tend to think only the worst.

Re: Scary Call from Doctor

  • Just try to think of it as a nice vacation or something. Use the time to get nice and pampered and then maybe it won't seem so scary.

    This and ...

I am sorry to hear that you have to go through this, but try to relax and then I am sure everything will be fine. My friend was in the same situation as you are now and everything went fine! Her little girl is turning two next month. ;)

  • I am thinking about you, just rest and relax ( I know easier said than done!)...maybe try posting this on the high risk board you may get more help over there!
  • Like the other pp have said, don't stress! Just try to relax and think of it as a break. Put your feet up, get pampered and try not to worry. Good luck with everything! Sending lots of prayers your way.
  • i just went to a specialist about this and this test is actually alot more acurate at negitives. meaning that if it comes back negitive, you  more than likely will not go into labor, but if it comes back positive, it doesnt really mean you will go into labor. i wouldn't worry too much. :) gl
  • Thanks for all the kind words. I am feeling somewhat better, finishing up some things at work then headed home for my vacation. Good to know chances are slim of me actually going into labor. Thanks again!!
