Well it was more like a jog. But it felt AWESOME! I bought a maternity belt at BRU (it's about 3 inches wide, you're supposed to wear it under your belly, I guess around the hip bones, for support. Honestly, I don't know what the point is, and it made me get a cramp so I had to loosen it... but my bump is small, so I think I will see the benefits when my bump is bigger. I use that belt as a sports bra for my bump, to avoid stretch marks... cuz the belt holds up the bump and take the pressure off your skin.
The run was really great.. it was my first real run in this pregnancy, but I've been keeping in shape with my dance classes and going to the gym for eliptical and bike.
I want to be in shape thruout this pregnancy, regardless of the doc the other day telling me I need to gain weight. he basically said I need to fatten up, which I think is stupid. He says the baby is measuring fine, but I need to gain weight. Is that dumb or is it just me?
Re: Just went for a run
I work out 5-7 times per week too and eat healthy, but I've been gaining weight just fine! I read that if you work out you should eat an extra 400 calories for every hour you work out. Seems like a lot to me so I don't really follow that, I just eat when I'm hungry. I know that if you are really lean, you need to put on some fat stores for breastfeeding so that may be what your Dr. is talking about. If my Dr. told me to gain more weight, I would try to eat some extra calories, maybe add another snack but you don't need to go crazy eating ice cream every night!
He did tell me that if I gained the recommended amount of weight (25-35 lbs for my body type) that I would have no trouble loosing it withine 6-12 weeks without even doing anything extra like working out after I have the baby. I really hope that's the case!
That's exactly what my doc told me at my last appt, too. I am not going to eat more because I have to gain weight. I eat what I eat, when I want to eat.
Usually very healthy stuff like vegetables, fruits and very little meat! And the baby is measuring fine, too! (I am 5'7 and currently weigh 136lbs)
I'm sorry, but I think yall are being ridiculous! If my DOCTOR was telling me I needed to gain some more weight I think I would probably attempt to up my calorie intake. I understand the desire to put on as little weight as possible, but you pay your doctor to take care of you during pregnancy and they are looking out for the baby and your best interests.
If you doctor wants you to put on some more pounds I would at least ask them why before deciding to ignore their advice. Maybe he's concerned that even though the baby is growing on target at this point that he/she might not continue to grow at a healthy weight. Plus, your baby's size is not the only concern during a pregnancy. The baby needs many nutrients to have proper brain, muscle, skeletal etc development.
Please listen to your doctor and talk to him/her about why he wants you to gain some weight before deciding that he's stupid and just not listening to him!
If you're not going to trust your doctor's opinion, you should find a new doctor.
Weight gain is a way to monitor yoru caloric intake. If you're not gaining, you may not be eating all of the nutrients the baby needs.
I love running and am still running about 4x a week. ?I just invested in some new better sports bras for my ever-expanding chest and now my runs feel awesome again!
As for the gaining weight, if my doc told me to gain weight I would listen to him.?
