Have a serious case of mommy guilt

I have had a week long business trip to Israel planned for about four months.  I leave tomorrow.  Everything was set up perfectly, the ILs arrived two days ago and will stay the entire time so DH has big time support.  One major glitch, DD came down with chicken pox two days ago.  The first day was but last night she was miserable.  I stayed up holding her all night as she couldn't get comfortable, didn't take any help for DH or ILs since I leave tomorrow.  My inlaws are great and I know DD will be fine but I am just feeling guilty about leaving her and DH while she is so sick.  I think I feel even guiltier because this should be a really "fun" business trip where I am staying in beautiful hotels, going to great restaurants, seeing some friends, etc.  Canceling makes no sense I just feel really badly regarding the timing.

Awww...welcome to mommyhood.  Being the youngest of 4, I guess my insight is a little skewed. By the time I came along, my mom was like "eh, she'll be o.k." I'm certain she was not like that with my older (the oldest) brother.  Once, she went to her college reunion and I was staying with my grandma.  I got really sick and they thought maybe I had appendicitis, but it just turned out to be gastroenteritis.  The only reason she came back is because I was admitted to the hospital and grandma couldn't authorize treatment. LOL I exagerrate, but not by much.

In any event, chicken pox are mostly uncomfortable and annoying, try to have a good time. (I know it's gonna be hard )

  • Aw, I'm sorry. It's normal to want to be with your DC when they're sick. But you're right - canceling the trip wouldn't do anyone any good. Hopefully she's all better when your return, and your happy, healthy little girl will welcome you home!

  • I read this wrong, I was thinking your business trip would last for four months! And as I was reading the replies, I'm thinking "why isn't anyone mentioning that she's going to be gone for four MONTHS and how horrible that would be?"

I'm sorry you have to leave your little one when she's sick, but hopefully she'll be feeling better in a few days and be ready to have fun!
