Black and blue on gum = tooth?

Any one else's LO get a black and blue on their gum before getting a tooth?  DS got this for one of his top front and now he has one on the top to the left of front tooth.  I chalked it up to a tooth coming in, until MIL said today I should really call the pedi.  I wasn't concerned, but now I am thinking shoud I be?

Anyone else experience this?

Thanks!

  • Not to worry! DD had one, too.  They usually resolve on their own

ETA:  I forgot to mention that yes, it has to do with the tooth erupting.

  • Henry's cousin had a spot like this.... I cant remember what it is called but it was normal and related to teething.

  • This also happened to DS. I was worried too. I thought he was getting a rotten tooth coming in:)  I guess it was just bleeding underneath and kinda bruises it so it gets really dark.  It went away gradually every day and yes, a tooth pooped through afterwards.
