those of you who use a pillowcase for a pail liner...

doesn't it get soaked?  and then don't you have to clean out the diaper pail everytime you do laundry?  so then what is the point of the pillowcase at all - can't you just put the diapers directly in the pail w/o a liner?  i used to use a pillowcase, then ditched it for this reason.  now i have a pail liner and i love not having to clean out the pail every time i wash diapers.

anyone care to weigh in ?

  • I still use a pillow case for Joanie's pail, because I haven't gotten around to making a liner for her.  I haaate it.  It grosses me out to carry it around the house, damp with pee.  ::shudders::

  • I have a diaper pail and pail liners.  And it stinks too bad for me to keep it in DD's room.  I end up walking her dirty diapers into the laundry room and put them in an unlined 5 gallon bucket.  It seems to smell so much less that way.  Plus, the laundry room is right next door to hers so it's not too much inconvenience.

But yes, I'm grossed out by the pillowcase concept for just the reason Glad mentioned.  Yick!

  • I use a pillowcase if my PUL liner is in the wash or something and it's not terrible. It gets damp but not like dripping wet or anything. I clean out my pail pretty frequently even when I am using my liner though because I like to make sure to keep the bacteria down and thus keep the smell down in the pail. My pail would be annoying to cart through the house but if it wasn't then I probably wouldn't worry about a liner and would just throw it straight in the pail - although even a pillowcase liner at least would keep the pail from having physical poop streaked in it. I'd definitely much rather clean out a damp pail then to have to deal with physical waste.

  • Ours doesn't get very wet at all.  Maybe a little damp but that's only if I let the diapers sit too long.  I try to do diaper laundry every other day so I think that helps.  I also sprinkle a little pail freshener in the bottom of the pail (between the pail and the pillowcase) and wash the pail at least once a month, usually twice.

    This exactly!
