Spotting after Intercourse (TMI)

My husband and I finally got the green light this trimester to make love. We didnt the first trimester because the doctor didnt want us to blame ourselves if anything were to happen. Anyway a few days ago we gave it a try and everything went well, till afterward. I went to the bathroom and when i wiped there was some spotting, I panicked a little but when I wiped again nothing and that was all. I spoke to the doctor and he said it was normal and since there was no cramps not to worry. Has anyone else experienced this and made love again with no issues?  I'm just so petrified....

Re: Spotting after Intercourse (TMI)

  • This is actually how we found out we were having twins :)  I called my doctor after the spotting and went in for bloodwork.  My progesterone was so high they ordered and ultrasound to confirm their suspisions.

It is VERY normal.  Have you had any spotting since?  If it is mild spotting that doesn't last for too long and turns to brown spotting (which is a good sign) I wouldn't worry.

  • No , no spotting since just when I wiped, it wasn't brown though it was bright red which is why I really got nervous but again it was just that one wipe. I think I may just ban sex all together till they arrive lol just to keep sane.

  • Not with the twins but with my first pregnancy one time after intercourse I had quite a bit of bright red blood. I was totally freaked out.  I got it checked out and everything was normal. The dr. told me that when you are pregnant it softens your cervix and you have a lot more blood flowing through your body so it is much easier to bleed. Spotting after intercourse is totally normal, especially when it is so light. But I know its hard not to worry.

  • I always spotted, so my OB eventually just banned us from it. :(
  • The first time we were brave enough to try we had the same thing happen. It was just one wipe, and it never showed up again. I talked to the doctor, and he said the came thig your doctor did. I guess your cervix can be swollen and sensitive, so it can bleed if irritated. He told us it was fine, but to be more gentle next time :o)

We have braved it again but just took it really easy and had no issues again.

  • We had spotting at 12 weeks but not from sex and it was bright red and freaked me out.  Went to the ER all was fine, but it was very scary and NOT pleasant.  After that I was scared to have any sex (poor hubby) and we've only done it a few times since then.  The first time after I was so scared it wasn't even enjoyable and since I have relaxed a bit, but my Dr said it was normal if it does happen because of the same reasons everyone else noted and she said there was nothing I could do (as far as having sex goes) that was going to hurt the babies.  It's hard to get past that fear though and even relax enough to enjoy it.
  • I was told by my peri not to be alarmed if I had minor spotting after intercourse. After having a (brown) spotting episode unrelated to sex though, I was way cautious about irritating my cervix even more (I also had a low lying placenta).

My DH still lives abroad so no action going on whatsoever! Hang in there and hope you get to enjoy it while you can. Best of luck

  • Very normal!!  I've spotted a couple times from intercourse and I think once or twice the dr. recommended to take a few days to let the cervix heal or whatever the term he used was.  You have a lot more blood vessels during pregnancy and more blood so it is very normal.  Probably don't want to do it too rough though!  Don't give it up!
