Crib to bed

When did you move your baby to a bed? We are moving DS from a crib to a bunk bed (bottom obviously) in two weeks. We are moving and I decided I needed to get rid of the nursery set before we move so we don't have to move it again.  I'm thinking about getting a bed rail for the new bed and also will put a gate up in the bedroom so he can't get up in the middle of the night and "wander" the house.  How did your transition go? Any tips? A little nervous for the big change....

    I don't have any tips, but I like the gate idea.  DS wandering around in the middle of the night is my big fear when we do decide to transition him.
