I've got a pretty good washing routine going with CDs (cold rinse, hot wash with Charlie's, wash every 2-3 days), and I've been really happy that the diapers turn out really clean and fresh. Well, I threw a load into the washer last night and was just about to take my BG 3.0 covers out to air dry when I saw some big moldy/mildewy stains on the fleece. It didn't smell very clean either. I've been giving poop diapers a quick dunk in a bucket of water before putting them in the pail, and I guess the wetness caused the mildew. What is the best way to get the diapers clean so I can use them again? What is the best way to store poop diapers in the pail so this won't happen again?
Re: mildew on diapers - help!
I'd use a little bleach on them, and after that sun them out with some lemon juice & salt on them to kill any of the remaining mildew. I'd make sure it smells real clean & was fairly stain free before I put it on DC again.
We just scrape the poop off and put in the pail - no dunking or extra water, and we wash at least every 3 days. HTH! Good luck.
