Parenting after a Loss

If you didn't get a Britax...

what did you get?  I understand that the Britax carseats are among the safest on the market, but I wondered what other brands rank up there.  They're so stinking expensive and although I want my child to be safe, it just seems like there are so many other good, quality carseats out there that I know nothing about.

  • We got an Even-Flo Titan 5 for DD. It was Consumer Report's top choice for convertible car seats the year we had DD. I think they still make the Titan series, but I'm not sure.
  • Recaro Como and they are amazing.

Dh did lots of research and they are actually made by the same people who make race cars.

  • Yes for the Evenflo Triumph.  Has held up well through two children now.
  • We have the Recaro Como, but the Recaro Seats are Very safe, and currently on sale on a few places.

  • we got a britax but i'd recommend the first years true fit (i think that's the brand...). it ranked very highly among the rankings for both rear facing and forward facing and has a removeable top piece for RF so it doesn't take up as much room.

    ditto!

  • I originally bought the Cosco Alpha Omega Elite because Consumer Reports ranked it high plus it cost less that Britax. But it was hard to install and just not that great. I sucked it up and bought a britax. With coupons and sales, and buying discontiued patters, I got a Marathon for $149. I resisted too. but it is SOOOO much better than the other car seat. Easy to install

I have an Evenflo Triumph Advance DLX, and I love it.  As an added bonus, the state trooper who did our car seat inspection said that it is one of the easiest convertible seats to install correctly, if you use LATCH.

One possible downside, though, is its size: while it fits perfect in the back/middle position in my s.o.'s vehicle (a Saturn Vue), there is no way in hell it would fit in the back/middle of my car (a Mazda Protege), and it would only fit in a back/side position if I put it on the passenger side, with the front seat in the full upright position, and with that seat slid all the way forward.

  • We have two Cosco Alpha Omega Elites.  We picked this kinda because Consumer Reports ranked it high and we got them pretty cheap at Costco (they were $89 each).  We have not yet used them, but we liked what we read about them.

  • i have a britax boulevard cs in my car (Honda CRV)

l0jwe needed a smaller seat for DH's car.  first we got a Titan, and then a Triumph and neither fit at all RFing.  we ended up getting the One True Fit by First Years and it is a fantastic seat.

  • Our everyday seats are Britax, but we have a Cosco Scenera in DH's car.  I actually really like it.  It's not as "fancy" as the Britax (less cushion, no fancy patterns, clips seem lighter weight), but it is rated well for safety and the price ($55) was unbeatable.

  • we have an evenflo triumph and titan, <3 them both!
  • We have an Evenflo Triumph in DH's car. Very easy to install, and DD seems to like it.

  • We got the Graco Nautilus.

Avery is only 18 lbs right now and she still likes her infant carrier that goes up to 30 lbs and 32 inches. I plan on keeping her rear facing as long as she fits in her seat.
