I usually lurk here but have a question. If you have this mattress (the 2-in-1), do you use a mattress pad? The mattress says it's "water resistant" so I'm wondering if I need a mattress pad or if I can just use some sort of sheet saver/lap pads or if I can just use a sheet by itself. Any advice or experience with messes in the bed would be great

We do have a mattress pad for ours.  I have no experience since my little boy hasn't arrived yet, but the pads are cheap, so I figure it's better safe than sorry.
