Parenting after a Loss

Didn't do one of her night feedings last night...

I'm in Key West and DD won't take a bottle. Soo... I wanted to go out last night and I fed DD around 8:45 and she went to bed. Right before DH and I went out I fed her again around 10:00. My mom is with us so she said to go out and when she got up she would try again with the bottle and if it didn't work then she would rock her to sleep. DH and I got home a little after 1 AM and my mom said DD woke up, she tried giving her a bottle but she wouldn't take it so she just rocked her back to sleep. She didn't wake up again until after 3 AM so I fed her then. I think we may do the same thing tonight. I think she may be at the point that she can STTN without needing to be fed. We may even try to get rid of the 3 AM feeding as well. What do you all think? I haven't minded waking up to feed her these past 4 mos but I go back to work in about 3 weeks so it would be FanTABulous if she didn't wake up to eat. Anyone have any experience getting rid of the night feedings??

  • Well evie basically got rid of the night feedings on her own (until this week where they have suddenly reappeared) but I think your DD is definitely old enough where you can try it! I would just work on dropping one feeding at a time though.

  • That's awesome! I have no advice since the last week Maggie has been up 2x to eat per night. I know she should be able to go the whole night without eating, but I don't know how to not feed her.

  • I'm not good with giving up night feedings but I wanted to tell you I was looking for you in the 30 seconds I got to watch the Today Show this morning.  Al and Matt were in Key West.

  • You can try it.  Aidan did away with his night time feedings on his own at about 2 months.
  • Thanks for the advice chicas! We haven't seen Al or Matt but I believe they are right near where we are. I can see the cruise ships from where we are staying.
  • DD gave up her 1am feeding on her own.  Occassionally she will sleep through her 4am feeding as well.  From what I've read "STTN" is a misnomer; it means 5-6 hours... so usually only dropping one feeding.  I figure she will drop her 4am feeding when she is ready.  Good luck with your LO; enjoy your vacation and sleep.
