Trouble TTC?

If you take shots to help you get pg, what are you taking shots of and where does this step fall in the realm of TTTC? I found out last night that SIL has been taking shots to help get pg and the next step is fertility drugs. She's not very open at all and this information came from another family member who had little information. I was just curious if this meant something like Clomid as a fertility drug or something beyond that and figured you girls might have some insight to help out a nosey sister.

I'd love to talk to her/them and maybe reccommend the TTTC board but we didn't have TTTC so I don't know much and I didn't even know they were TTC in the first place so I don't feel like its my place Sad.

Re: Trouble TTC?

  • Clomid isn't an injection.  But along with Clomid, she could be taking an injection to trigger ovulation (which is what we did).  I would say that you probably shouldn't say anything.

ETA: If they wanted to share with you, they would, that's why I would say not to bring it up.

Thanks Brooke, I know clomid isn't an injection, I was trying to figure out if they had gone the clomid route yet and were getting into heavier fertility drugs than that so this helps out. And trust me, I won't be saying a thing. They are both VERY private people and I remember all too well not wanting to talk to anyone about TTC so that's a boat I don't want to rock and disrespect them.

  • If they are doing injectibles, then that usually means they have already done clomid, or they bipassed it because it would not be effective.  Clomid effects the pituitary gland while injectibles are FSH drugs (follicle stimulating hormones).  The term injectibles usually doesn't include trigger shots.  Follistim and Gonal F are the most common.

I'm sorry they are dealing with IF.  Even though you aren't going to talk to them about their IF, there are ways to support them.  I would start by telling whoever told you to STFU.  That is really uncool that she would share such private information.

  • ditto pp... If they're doing injectibles that means they have tried clomid or it skipped it to go onto something more effective.

Pinkwedding had some good advice to tell whoever told you not to say anything to anyone else. TTTC is a really private issue and I would feel really betrayed if someone told my business to other people (even family).

You have a good heart though... I just don't think you should say anything.

It was one of my sisters who told us last night. They opened up to my siblings this weekend but we weren't there since we were prepping for DS's party so she had good intentions and wasn't trying to be disrespectful at all. I'm actually very glad she did tell us. We'll probably be TTC again soon and its good to know that they are having TTTC for sensitivity reasons.

If they are doing injectibles, is it safe to assume that she is the problem or would they be trying this as a step before SA for my brother? I know you all aren't doctors, just trying to get a handle on the situation and get my facts straight in case they do open up about it when I'm there so I'm not too ignorant of the process involved. Thanks guys for the help!!

  • Most likely they have already done a SA.  That's usually the first thing they do along with cd 3 bloodwork.  It could be either of them or both really.  Injectibles obviously won't effect his numbers, but if they are doing IUI then they will still boost their chances.  Injectibles are just the logical (in most cases) next step if clomid was unsuccessful, no matter what is causing IF.

I'm sorry if my STFU comment came off harsh.  This is such a touchy subject, as you know, and sometimes people misunderstand what is/isn't their business to tell...even to family.  We were VERY private about what we were going through.  We rarely told our families about our plans or where we were in the process.  I am super close with both of my siblings and I would have been hurt if I knew they had been discussing our IF.

The good thing is that you know to be sensitive.  I actually don't think it is a bad thing to be ignorant about IF.  It's nice when people have a clue of what you're talking about, but I liked being able to be vague if I felt like it.  Yes, I want my cake and I want to eat it too ;)

  • pink wedding-not a harsh comment at all, i completely understand where you are coming from. This sister has apparently known they were TTC and having troubles for awhile now and only mentioned it to us since they were starting to open up. i know we didn't want to discuss TTC either time we were doing it with anyone because we didn't want the pressure or questions from anyone so I can only imagine what they are going through. thanks for all of your feedback on this!
