Parenting after a Loss

DS is sick and I'm sick so not fun

I feel horrible and I know DS feels bad. He's all snotty and some of it comes out with the blue nose sucker but within minutes he's snotty again. Dh feed him at 11pm last night and  it took to midnight to get Bailey back to sleep which isn't like him at all. Then he slept until 615am got up ate went back to sleep until 830am. Now he's just laying on my shoulder trying to breath and doing little whines/grunts. At least he doesn't have a fever. I called the pedi yesterday and spoke with a nurse. She told me to do the saline drops with the blue thing plus a humidifer. We have been doing all that but he sounds worse to me today. He's also added a little cough which I don't know if that's from the snot maybe going down his throat or what. How many days do I let this go on before I go see the Pedi? Or is it just one of those things that has to run its course?

Also his eating hasn't been the best either esp from the breast. Yesterday at his 5pm feeding I ended up pumping b/c he just wasn't doing well at the breast. So I pumped and gave him a bottle and he sucked it almost all down. This morning he did good at 630am but not so good when he got up around 830-845. I don't know if it's he can't breath on the breast or what.

I want this week OVER already!!

  • Awww, poor baby! I hope he feels better soon!

If it were me, I would call the pedi again if it continues to get worse or if he has more issues eating.  In all liklihood it probably just has to run its course unless he gets a lot worse, but I would call for peace of mind.

  • Yuck hope everyone feels better.

  • As far as eating goes, if he's stuffy and snotty, that's probably why he's having trouble eating---he can't breathe.  I know this is going to sound like torture in the heat, but have you tried sitting with him in your steamy bathroom?  That'll help loosen up the snot and make it easier to get rid of, and hopefully help him nurse as a consequence.

I'm sorry you two aren't feeling well, and I hope you're better soon.

  • I'm sorry you're not feeling well.  Jake has been snotty for the past week or so (and did have a cough for the first few days).  I think the saline drops & suction have helped, since the coughing has gotten better.  Hope everyone gets better soon!
