Round Ligament Pain?

What my dr. thinks is rlp started for me on Saturday morning and did not go away until last night. It was worse when I stood up, and it was on my lower right side of my abdomen. My OB suggested I go to the ER after 11 hours of constant pain, to rule out apendicitis. Anyway, they determined that it must be rlp since all my labs came back perfect. I had an u/s today and all is fine.

How long is it supposed to last once it starts, a few mins, hours etc? Is it worse with twins? Has this happend to you?

Re: Round Ligament Pain?

  • I have had alot of RLP lately.  Actually, I get a fair amount of stretching, pulling, expanding feelings on a regular basis.  Sometimes they come and go quickly, sometimes they are extended.  I have asked my doctor about it, too and since she isnt concerned and the babies look ok, I just chalk it up to 2 babies growing in a a really tight space.

  • I just wanted to second the RLP thing, I have been have some pretty bad pain lately as well.  Mine is almost always on the left side only and only flares up when standing or walking.  On a pain scale scale of 1-10, I'd say that when I stand up after sitting down for a while and start to walk around, my pain is a 8.  Then... it doesn't really stop until I stop walking around.  It definitely feels sort of like a pulled muscle.  Whew, I'm whining, but it sure does cause quite a bit of pain!!  I called my doctor's office today just to describe these symptoms and the nurse said that making room for twins can be pretty tight in there, especially at week 20.  I needed to call just to make sure the pain wasn't too unusual.  I figure with everyone saying that it is better to call your doctor than ignore a symptom, it was a good idea.  Anywho, I go for my 20 week OB appt. tomorrow and I'm sure he'll make sure these feelings are within range of what they should be.  If he gives me any helpful advice, I'll write back.  Hopefully not as lengthy as this!!!!  Anyone else notice the pain on one side more than the other?  Does this stretching pain last until the end of the pregnancy?  I'm fine with the pain throughout my pregnancy as long as I have an explaination for it, does that make sense?  The unknown is the scary part for me.  Thanks for letting me blab for a bit!
