2nd Trimester

BAD DOGGY!!!!

First and foremost! Gooooood morning 2nd tri mamas!!! hope everyone had a great weekend. Another work week....here I come!

So yah.....the newest upheaval to share.... my DOGGY!! OMG!  I was laying on the couch yesterday and DH came over and was laying kinda next to me and the dog jumped on my DH and then got on the back of the couch. He then jumped and landed right on my abdomen!!!!!!!!!!! Indifferent It hurt so bad all his 4 paws digging in. (I cried a little bit actually cuz it hurt so bad and then also cuz I got scared about the baby.  He weighs about 18 pounds. It scared me so bad. I was freaking out!!! I'm wondering if I need to call my OB and let them know. I don't have any signs of m/c or feeling any different. I have my 15w appt on Wed.  DH was so mad at the dog ....... he made the dog go in his cage and stay their all afternoon "He grounded him to the pound".  but now I'm scared my baby will have damage somehow Tongue Tied I just can't help but worry!

Re: BAD DOGGY!!!!

  • Call the doc and tell them the story. They might want to check you out.

  • The same things happened to me at 14 weeks my dog is 50 pounds. I was worried and called the doctors office and they said as long as I didn't have any cramping or bleeding I was fine.  It is very scary, I felt the same way you do.  We had a follow up appointment a few weeks later and LO is doing just fine.
  • call ur doctor if it will help ease your mind.  My German Shep. dog did the same to me but I was standing & he jumped on me & felt like he punched me right in the stomach.. Luckily I have a doppler at home & listened to the babies hb, so that made me feel better.  I also noticed my stomach was really tight for about an hour after & my sister said to just lay down & prop my feet up.  It went away though & no spotting or anything else.
  • Try not to worry.  At 15 wks, your baby is still very tiny (4.5oz about the size of an orange) and sitting VERY low in your pelvis area.  Even if you have a "bump", it's not necessarily baby at this point.  Also, keep in mind that your baby is well insulated in your ute and your dog wasn't sitting on your belly for an hour or anything.  Relax, but if you can't call your doc for re-assurance.

  • Try to relax.  You probably want to call your doctor and make sure he/she isn't worried, but things like this happen in pregnancy all the time - so you are probably okay.  The baby is really protected in there.

BTW - My 60 pound puppy hopped up on the bed several weeks ago and walked right over my tummy - OWWWW!!!  But all is well.  And I'm sure that mom's with toddlers could tell us lots of similar stories.  Try not to stress.

  • Your dogs are bigger and you were okay so that makes me feel better. I'm just so worried because his little paws dug in pretty deep when he jumped on my belly and then pushed off to jump off (he's long legged jack russell Tongue Tied - TOO damn hyper). I just hope he didn't bruise the baby or anything.

Yah I'll call my OB and just let them know what happened.

Honey, he didn't bruise the baby. Your child is extremely well protected at this point still. The baby is still small and well insulated by your body and amniotic fluid. I was in a fender bender at 22 weeks with DD. It was a minor accident but the airbag deployed. Dr. had me come in and they listened to baby's hb and then sent me home to put my feet up and drink some water. As long as you took it easy yesterday and didn't run a marathon or move some heavy furniture you'e fine. Call the dr if it will make you feel better. Why would you put your dog in his cage all afternoon? He had no idea that what he was doing was wrong. A firm no and a brief time out in his cage I can understand but hours in his cage? Really?
