GD and heartburn... tums?

I have wicked heartburn today, and feel sooo sick to my stomach. It feels marginally better when I take some tums. But, I can taste that they have sugar in them... if I'm munching on them all day should I worry about my sugar? Or just make a note that I had heartburn? Is there anything lower in sugar that I can try?

Re: GD and heartburn... tums?

  • I use Pepcid complete chewables.  It only takes one and they work like little miracles.

I got sugar-free Tums at Target.
  • My tums say they only have 5 calories per 2 tums so I'm not worrying about it.

  • i take zantac 150 twice a day. its the only thing that knocks my heartburn down a notch.

then if it's really bad i'll take 2 chewy rolaids - i'm sure they are high in sugar but i only take them if i'm absolutly miserable and HAVE to have something else on top of the zantac.

  • I think it depends on how many Tums you are actually taking. I avoided taking them as much as possible when I was pregnant, but sometimes you just have to. I never tried Pepcid. Since dd was born, I have found a new supplement called Acid Ease by Enzymatic Therapy. It is natural and contains slippery elm and marshmallow root, but I would double check about taking them while pg first, even though they are a natural supplement. But they do seem to help, and I like them because they're natural.
