My 2 year old has suddenly become very proficient in getting out of his crib and refuses to stay in his crib at naptimes and bedtimes. He was so bad with this today that he interrupted DS #2's first nap and also woke DS #2 up from his sleep tonight by climbing into his crib.
DS #1 and #2 share a room and there is no way that they can have their own room d/t our house only having two bedrooms. ![]()
I am at my wits end with this today and I am not sure what to do to remedy the problem... please help!
Re: Bedtime Woes... Need advice!
We had this issue when we moved DD to the big-girl bed. A while back, MIL had bought DD a string of butterfly lights to hang in her room, and we had never actually turned them on before. When she started playing the "out of bed" game, I told her she could keep the butterflies on IF she stayed in her bed, but that if she got out, the butterflies go off. The first night or two, she still got out of bed maybe once or twice, and I just said, "Aw, I'm sorry but we have to turn off your butterflies now...maybe tomorrow you can stay in your bed and keep them, though!"
I also told her that if she wanted me to leave her bedroom door open, she needed to stay in her bed, but that was a bluff because I wouldn't have shut the door and left her in there alone when she was nervous about the big-girl bed. I probably shouldn't have said it at all (I didn't say it in a threatening way, but just explained that if she keeps getting out of bed, Mommy has to close her door), but when I did, the problem ended almost immediately.
Maybe a cool nightlight instead of the butterflies?
