i contacted evenflo and they said i can reorder the foam.  thankfully it was a clean break and i can put it back in and pull the seat cover over like normal until it comes.  we totally lucked out... w/his bday next week we didn't budget for another convertible seat!

Those are the best moments in the world.  Although Carter just came in here and looked up at me with his huge dark eyes and so sweetly said "I love you Mommy".  Then he quickly followed that up with "Play cars with me now".  I'm pretty sure his sister put him up to it, since she was tired of playing with him.
