Back in April we enrolled Ben in daycare starting August 3rd with
the expectation that I would have a teaching job. Well, I still don't
have a job, school starts in a month, and we've already paid tuition
for August. September tuition is due August 1. It really is $900 that
we can't afford to pay unless I have a job.
Re: Poll: What should I do?
If you really want a teaching job, substituting is a foot in the door. I know that you might not get a lot of calls to come in during September, but you might get an inside track on someone taking a spring sabbatical, someone else's maternity leave, or another opening. It will make you a face instead of just an application.
Just another point of view. (from someone who also has very little money left over after paying for daycare!)
I agree with pp. Subbing, while won't make you any extra money, it will get you into the schools and might give you an upper hand when certain jobs come available. If they know you at the schools they are more likely to hire you over a random person should a job open up.
On the flip side, when I got my teaching job I wasn't hired until the week school started. I would pay for Sept. tuition because often times schools realize they need teachers closer the the beginning of the school year or even a week after its started because they have a better idea of number of students.
