2nd Trimester

Can't shake the nausea and exhaustion

And I'm sick of it.  I am just entering 2nd trimester and I feel worse than ever, and I find that I can't help but lay my head down on my desk and take a little nap.

I am nauseous in the morning no matter what.  Then if I let my stomach get empty, nausea.  And Now it seems to be when my stomach gets too full.

I find myself wondering if it's here to stay for the length of my pregnancy.

  • mine started easing up around 16 weeks. i thought it magically goes away when you enter 2nd tri but thats not the case for a lot of women. hope you feel better!
  • I was thinking the exact same thing this morning.  I am not quite as tired but the nausea is is still here.  I seriously have to eat something every 20-30 mins otherwise I am miserable!  I hope it gets better for the both of us!!

  • I know how you feel.  Last Friday I offically joined 2nd tri and I was sicker than I have been since 6 weeks the whole weekend.  I have been feeling a bit better since then, but according to my mom, she was sick until around 16 weeks as well so I guess I shouldn't start hoping until around 20 weeks.

  • Mine got better around 14 weeks and now my nausea is only triggered by certain smells. Hope you feel better soon!
  • My doctor told me that it can be up to around 16 weeks before all of the first trimester fades so you still have time.  I didn't stop throwing up consistantly until around 15 weeks and still do from time to time.  Some repreive is better than none though!

  • I was still a mess at your point (on meds to function).

Things really improved around mid-way through week 17.   I don't take the meds anymore.  I have only puked a few times while brushing my teeth since then (coughing and teeth brushing sadly are still triggers).

  • I'm right there with you! Seriously the slightest of smells makes me feel icky.. It's getting kind of better though, but I work at Allstate so when people come in and they have been smoking or something I run to the bathroom. Hopefully things will start getting better soon!

    Hang in there!

  • Nice to know I'm not alone, but frustrated we are all stick sick Sad

  • Weird. I was just tryign to fix my typo (stick=still).

Oh the smell someone mentioned.  I work in Downtown Cincinnati and it either smells of urine, poop, or chemicals...or a mixture of some or all of them.  Then if I pass somone who's smoking...just yucky.

  • Not to be a downer...but I'm still feeling the exact same way you are feeling.  I'm given up hope at ever feeling "normal" again.  I feel your pain and I hope it goes away for you.
  • I am still sick all the time.
  • I felt awful at 13 weeks. I still feel crummy sometimes (mostly in the evenings) but it's a LOT better than it was.

  • I felt pretty crappy up through about 15 weeks, but now I feel much better.  I think my stomach is still sensitive, but I haven't thrown up in a month or so (21 weeks now) which is awesome.

On a related note, there are some medications that are relatively safe (think tylenol-level of safety according to FDA) that you can take that will help you keep food down.  My midwife gave me zofran, and although I know we're all really hesitant to take drugs while pregnant, it was the only way I thought I could keep working!  Might be worth thinking about, anyway.
