Parenting after a Loss

Solid strike continues. I need help!

I don't know if it's b/c of his teething or the heat or what (he is definitely cutting a front upper tooth) but Leo will only a few bites of baby food at night and that is after much cajoling. Today all he will eat is puffs and a few tiny bites of pear (and only if I feed it to him and the dog simultaneously - don't ask).

I know he is getting most of what he needs from formula. But I am concerned that my awesome eater is suddenly freaking out every time I put him in the high chair for a meal. We also have major constipation issues and the pedi is gonna make him take laxatives if we can't fix it through diet. He was doing better when he had pear/prune/oatmeal every morning, but now he won't eat the oatmeal or the fruit.

Suggestions??

  • I am sorry that he is still striking.

Have you tried prune juice?  Since he won't eat prune babyfood do you think you could get him to drink the juice instead?

    I hope it gets better.

  • I don't have any suggestions, but I just wanted to say I'm sorry!  And that is so funny about feeding the dog too.  We have two little dogs and Logan now feeds a good amount of his table food to the dogs, he thinks it's the best game ever.
  • i was thinking juice too.

Yeah, I thought of that too. But he won't drink it. I have no idea why. Who doesn't like JUICE???

We did, but we had juiced it ouselves and I wonder if it was too intense for him. I bought some bottled pear juice as he always liked pears and I'm gonna try that today, watered down... geesh I hope it works. I can't imagine a baby on laxatives. Yikes.

Hopefully the juice will work. Are they going to give the suppositories if not? I know two babies who had to use those and those things were POWERFUL Indifferent according to the mommies who had to change the diapers.

  • No suggestions Sue as I am so clueless with this solids thing.  I hope Leo's constipation issues clear up soon and he starts eating like his oldself!
  • A. is on a puree strike - she just wants bites of food.  In order for her to eat purees, I have to fake her out by putting a bite of whatever to her face and then slipping the spoon in... and only that lasts a few times before she figures it out.

maybe he's just ready for more fingerish foods???

  • is there another laxative type food you can try? Maybe he is tired of the taste or texture. What formula are you on? enfamil premium is supposed to produce softer stools>
  • ok, what about prunes in the mesh feeder? would he eat them out of there if he won't eat the puree or drink the juice?
