Parenting after a Loss

6 month appointment...and a question.

Checkup went great except for the shots!  Poor baby screamed like never before..

Weight..19 lbs(75th percentile)   Height.. 28 in (95th percentile)... Head circ....17in (95th percentile)

I asked the doctor about his sleeping issues...  He said I am trying to make him sleep too long.  And that he is waking up because he is hungry???

He has dinner (one or two containers/cubes of baby food) around 5:30...then a 8 oz bottle  then he goes to bed at 7:30.  He starts waking up around 12:30am he wakes up and I pick him up and rock him back to sleep up to 5 times a night( or more some nights).  He wakes up for the day around 7:15...

WDYT?  What was your LO's schedule around 6 months....

I don't want him to go to bed later... i need my "me" time!

Re: 6 month appointment...and a question.

  • I don't think you are trying to make him sleep too long.. but maybe move the bottle closer to bedtime or try giving a bottle the first time he wakes up at night? maybe he really is hungry?

I don't know.. thats a total guess.. My kid isn't a good sleeper anymore either.

  • Jocelyn's current schedule:

5-6 pm: 2-3 oz of Baby food

7-8: a few oz in a bottle to "top off the tank"

    7:30 -8:30: Bedtime

Wake-up varies for her. Sometimes it is 6:30 sometimes 8:30. But she never gets up during the night. Her earliest has been 5:15. If she gets up before 6:30 I usually just rock her back to sleep and she will sleep for about another hour or so

I'm not trying to say that I am doing anything "right." I honestly think I am just lucky and have a good sleeper....

  • I think your doctor is dead wrong on this one...sorry! 7:30 is a perfectly good bedtime, according to pretty much ALL the sleep books (and sadly I read almost all of them). You are doing exactly our schedule - dinner around 6ish then an 8oz bottle at 7- and Leo sleeps until 6am, but used to stay down until 7:30. I mean, if he was waking up at 6am I would say yeah, he needs to eat at that point - but not at midnight. You are doing great and it is probably just habit at this point....
  • fletcher eats a veggie at 5:30 ish with a 4 oz bottle. He has a 6oz bottle at 7-7:30 and then straight to bed. He wakes up between 5-6 and has a bottle then goes back down until 7 or so. He doesn't usually wake up during the night and if he does we just give him a paci and he's fine.
  • Ok Emma JUST started sleeping through the night so I am no sleep expert.  It has been about a week and a half and before that she was getting up numerous times a night and then it was like one night she just got it and has done great since. She has dinner (jar of veggie) around 5 with a couple oz of formula in her sippy cup.  Then she has her bedtime bottle around 6:30 and is asleep by 7:00.  She usually wakes up sometime between 4-5 but I can rock her back to sleep until about 6:00.  Even when she wakes up at 6, she is not screaming starving but will eat when we feed her.  If you want to know how we worked on STTN without CIO page me.
